Recipe Round-Up 5.31.15

Hello, friends!

It's been another busy week here in South Carolina, and here we are on Sunday. This week for the Recipe Round-Up, I thought it would be fun to share some homemade sauces.

Homemade Sweet BBQ Sauce from The McCallum's Shamrock Patch [Recipe Round-Up at A Little Seed Grows]
I have a confession; I don't normally like sweet barbeque sauce. However, this Kansas-style sauce from The McCallum's Shamrock Patch sounds like it's worth a go, and I like the idea of making my own sauce so that I can adjust the sweetness.

Avocado Ranch Dressing from Real HouseMoms [Recipe Round-Up at A Little Seed Grows]
I love to make homemade dressing for salad though most of my creations have been vinaigrettes. Now that I've found this homemade avocado ranch dressing recipe from Real HouseMoms, there will be no need for store bought ranch dressing at our house.

Easy Homemade Ketchup from Strength & Sunshine [Recipe Round-Up at A Little Seed Grows]
Did you know that most store bought ketchups are full of sugar? This homemade ketchup recipe from Stregnth & Sunshine is super easy and has way less sugar.

Strawberry Syrup Recipe from Food, Folks and Fun [Recipe Round-Up at A Little Seed Grows]
It's strawberry season here in South Carolina, and this strawberry syrup recipe shared by Food, Folks and Fun sounds delicious. She's using it on pancakes, but I'd serve with pound cake and vanilla ice cream.

Our Brown Boxes have been rocking. We're getting way more goodies than we can eat, but we're using that as inspiration to try new recipes.

Case in point, how about this yummy pizza and homemade strawberry lemonade?

It was important that we get a flag up for Memorial Day. The local birds stopped by to show their approval.

And finally, we're seeing fruits from our garden. These beans were the first pick of the season, and we're expecting these volunteer cherry tomatoes to start turning this week.

Recipe Round-Up 5.17.15

Hello, friends! It's been a couple weeks since we've checked in. We have lots of garden photos and a couple recipes to share, but they need a little editing first so keep your eyes open for later this week.

In the meantime, let's have another recipe round-up.

Roasted Garlic and Bacon Guacamole from Barefeet in the Kitchen [Recipe Round-Up at A Little Seed Grows]
Guacamole is a favorite around our house; David learned to make his guac in Mexico. This recipe, which calls for bacon and roasted garlic, from Barefeet in the Kitchen must be tried. We'll using garlic from our garden.

Homemade Pizza from the View from the Great Island [Recipe Round-Up at A Little Seed Grows]
For us, Fridays are typically pizza night.  The View from the Great Island shared a homemade pizza, which is made completely from scratch and takes less than an hour. Freshly made pesto sauce sounds like a great way use some of the basil that's sitting in a coffee mug on the counter right now.

Healthy Summer Squash Casserole from Reluctant Entertainer [Recipe Round-Up at A Little Seed Grows]
We're receiving summer squash regularly in our Brown Boxes now, so I'm on the hunt for new recipes. This summer squash recipe includes veggies and chicken and could probably be a quick meal for us on a busy evening. Head to Reluctant Entertainer to check it out.

Homemade Vanilla Cinnamon Raison Almond Butter from Ambitious Kitchen [Recipe Round-Up at A Little Seed Grows]
In keeping with the idea of making my own bread this summer, I think I may have to give this Ambitious Kitchen recipe for homemade vanilla cinnamon raisin almond butter a try. It sounds perfect for toast for breakfast.

Refreshing Non-Alcoholic Drinks from Place of My Taste [Recipe Round-Up at A Little Seed Grows]

Now that the weather is quite warm, evenings on the patio must be accompanied by cold beverages. Place of My Taste has a quick round-up of beverages that will cool you off without the alcohol.

Fresh Herbs [Garden Update]

Over the weekend, we were able to get our herb garden planted.

We have two plants have survived from last year's herb garden. It wasn't the weather as much as the monster puppy knocking pots over and eating plants this winter that took out most of our remaining herbs. Luckily, these oregano and lavender plants are thriving.
Fresh Herbs [Garden Update at A Little Seed Grows]

This years additions include the [in the orange planter] spearmint, silver thyme, pineapple sage and spicy oregano. Growing in their own pots are dill and Italian basil. The dill had to come inside because it won't survive our heat and sun.

Also, check out the start to David's cucumber trellis.

We definitely still have room for more herbs. What would you add to the garden?

Eat Local, Eat Healthy

What are you eating from the spring harvest this weekend? #food #farmers #organic #nonGMO #cleaneats
Posted by The Cornucopia Institute on Saturday, April 25, 2015

I know I've talked before about what a blessing it is that we're a part of Brown Box Veggies. I just can't imagine getting our produce any other way at this point. It's a great way to keep fresh, local produce in the kitchen even though we didn't plant a winter or spring garden.
